After the sprint of exams, finals, and papers, while still managing to have a social life, how do you catch your breath?
Sometimes, finding a way to relax and unwind after the semester is over can be hard. And when you are used to the hectic speed of life in college, it can take a while to adjust to the slower pace of life over the break. Follow these 3 tips to make the most of your break, and come back rested and ready to kick off 2013 the right way!
1) Reflect on Last Semester
Take some time to ask yourself what you liked about the semester, and what you didn’t like. Think back on the whole semester, and give yourself some time, perhaps a few hours, to process your thoughts. It may seem like a silly thing to do, but being able to critically think about your past experiences can help you clear your mind and get ready for the next step: the new year!
2)Look Forward to Next Semester
Take some time to reflect about the things that you want to do in the coming semester. What is important to you? How can you make plans to make these things become a reality? By planning on ways that you can make things better in the future, you can reduce stress about what the future will bring, and be mentally ready for the start of the new semester.
3) Do Something Silly
At a top-notch college like UNC, it is easy to feel like you must be doing something productive at all times. This is especially true during finals, when there are too many things to do and not enough time to do them. The reality is, however, that everyone needs a mental break to stay fresh and happy. So take some time to do things that are not goal-oriented, like reading something for fun or working on a puzzle with your family, to let your mind focus on enjoying a task, rather than simply getting it done.
If you can manage to make time for yourself to relax this semester break, you will be well on your way to success in the new year!
As always, take care of yourself, and we hope to see everyone back for the Spring 2013 Semester!
